S M J Safaris is owned and operated by Professional Hunter and Outfitter Stephan Jacobs. Stefan has three main hunting areas in Namibia offering the full range of Namibian plains game and leopard. The hunting concessions are huge and offer true fair chase safaris.  All hunting is done in the traditional walk and stalk fashion using San Bushmen trackers.  There is absolutely no shooting permitted from vehicles.

The northern area is located 5 ½ hours north of Windhoek and offers sixteen species including  kudu, eland, gemsbuck, springbuck and both blue and black wildebeest. This area, located on the north west corner of the Kalahari Plain, encompasses 80,000 acres of some of the most beautiful hunting land in southern Africa.  Accommodations are a permanent hunting lodge accommodating a maximum of six people, with en-suite bungalows situated in the natural high tree forest bushveld. Amenities  at the lodge include a boma for the evening campfire, and a lounge with indoor fireplace. There is electricity in the camp provided by generator that runs during the day, with battery power for lights during the evening. Telephone and email services are also available. There is no cell phone reception in area. A swimming pool is also available at the main house.

Stephan’s mountain concession offers 62,000 acres of free range hunting in one of the most picturesque locations in Africa. It is home to the rare and beautiful Hartmann’s mountain zebra which can only be hunted in Namibia, as well as eight additional species including  leopard, klipspringer,  kudu and gemsbuck. This is the concession used for our leopard hunts using tracking dogs.  During my visit in September of '06 I saw more leopard tracks in two hunting days than I have seen in any other area of Africa. The area is a 2 hour drive south of Windhoek. Accommodation is the traditional ranch style with en-suite rooms in a separate wing of the main ranch house. . Meals are prepared and served in the dining room of the main ranch house, giving you the experience of a traditional Namibian family lifestyle. The ranch house is situated in the high dessert mountains giving the guest an immediate idea of what is awaiting them for the following days hunting.

The Kalahari area is located three hours south of Windhoek and is home to eleven species including springbuck, red hartebeest, gemsbuck, impala, and steenbuck. Clients are accommodated in a luxurious safari lodge with all of the luxuries you would expect from a first class safari camp. The lodge lies between the dunes and camel thorn acacia trees of the 22,000 acre concession. The area gives you the feeling of the old traditional style safaris with wide-open Savanna grassveld and big herds of springbuck giving the hunter the opportunity to hunt in a real desert environment.

Safaris can be arranged in multiple areas to increase the trophy list. A non-hunting observer day will be charged for your travel day from one area to another. As the hunting areas are quite large, hunters should be in reasonable shape to fully enjoy their safari experience in the varied terrain they will encounter. Rifles should be flat shooting with quality optics as some shots can be in excess of 200 yards.
