Bishopstone Safaris is located in the lowveld of southeastern Zimbabwe just north of the Limpopo River and the town of Beitbridge. The main hunting concession is a 40, 000 acre private game reserve that is home to over twenty species of plains game and leopard, including both sable and nyala..
They have several additional hunting areas including their 180,000 acre area in the Mateke Hills for Leopard, as well as the Chirisa safari area in northern Zimbabwe for Buffalo, Lion and Elephant. They also have access to the Beitbridge C.A.M.P.F.I.R.E. area in southern Zimbabwe. This area encompasses over one million acres of land with the Limpopo River as its southern boundary. The eastern end of the area borders both Kruger and Gonarezhou National Parks, while the western boundary is the Tuli area of the Botswana border. The Bubi, Mwenezi and Mzingwane Rivers bisect the hunting area before draining into the Limpopo. The famed Mateke Hills, noted for great Leopard, are located in the eastern area of the concession near Gonarezhou.
There have been many exceptional trophies taken from these areas over the past few seasons, most notably a 30 ½" Nyala, two 18" Bushbuck, a 30" Waterbuck and a 58 ½" Kudu from Bishopstone Estates. Leopard hunters have had better than an 80% success ratio. Their team of Professional Hunters includes; Rodie Tourle, Wayne Bartlett and Terry Anders.
Camps are either traditional stone and thatch chalets with ensuite bath and toilet facilities, or first class tented camps with thatched coverings and ensuite facilities. The staff is fully trained, and will ensure that you will enjoy your safari experience.
We will arrange your flights into Bulawayo where you will be picked up and assisted through customs and immigration before driving to camp. As most shots will be fairly close, a good quality, low power, variable rifle scope in 1.5 - 6x range will be very useful on both your medium and heavy rifles. Dangerous game animals require a minimum caliber of .375 H&H, however try to use the largest caliber that you can shoot well, especially for Elephant. Leopard and plains game rifles should be of medium caliber with the 30-06 considered a minimum. A .338 Winchester with either a .416 or .458 would be an ideal two rifle battery for this area.
